Student privacy

This page is for teachers, parents, and school administrators who want to know what happens to students when a class plays Kleveroo. Kleveroo is built for teacher-hosted classroom review and is designed with classroom privacy in mind: the default way to play doesn't ask students for anything at all.

1. No student accounts required for hosted Board Battle play

Board Battle — our Jeopardy-style game — runs on one screen, one host. The teacher projects the board, teams call out answers, and the teacher taps the score. There is no student login, no join code for students, no student device, and no student roster.

• Students never create an account.
• Students never enter a name, an email, or any other detail.
• Nothing about an individual student is sent to us.
• Team names and scores live in the teacher's browser during the game.

The only account involved is the teacher's, and the only thing recorded is that a board was played.

2. Live Trivia rooms use self-chosen nicknames

Our separate Live Trivia mode lets people join a room from their own device. Players type a nickname they choose themselves — no account, no email, no verification. Nicknames are visible to everyone in the room and are stored only for the life of the room, which expires automatically.

If you use Live Trivia with students, tell them to use a first name only, initials, or a made-up team name. Nothing in Kleveroo requires a student's real or full name.

3. We don't intentionally collect student personal information

Kleveroo is not designed to receive student records, and we don't ask for them anywhere in the product. There is no roster import, no gradebook sync, no class list, and no student profile.

4. What teachers should not upload

Please don't paste or upload student personal information into Kleveroo — including AI prompts, lesson-plan uploads, board text, and clue images. That means no student names or contact details, no class rosters, no IEPs or 504 plans, no medical, behavioural, or disciplinary records, and no photos, scans, or screenshots containing any of the above. Images attached to board clues are stored at public web addresses, so a scanned worksheet with names on it should be cropped or redacted first.

5. Review AI-generated boards before class

AI-generated clues can be wrong, ambiguous, or a poor fit for the age group. Read through a generated board and edit it before you put it in front of students. Every generated board is fully editable.

6. Deletion and data requests

Kleveroo supports data deletion requests. A teacher, parent, or school administrator can ask us to delete an account and its data, tell you what we hold, or send a copy of it, using Data & account requests. A person on our team reviews every request — we don't run automatic deletions. We may confirm by email that the request really comes from the account holder before we act on it.

7. What we're not claiming

We describe how the product actually works rather than making compliance claims. Kleveroo has not been formally certified or audited against any student-privacy, security, or data protection standard, and we don't claim to be. If your district needs a signed data protection agreement or a formal review, email support@kleveroo.com and we'll work through it with you honestly.
